Hiatus

MHY is going on a (perhaps not so brief) hiatus. Pressing obligations IRL force me to make some hard choices about how I use my time right now. I welcome messages from anyone who wants the blog to continue.

2011 Plan Redux

After digging out from the recent winter weather onslaught and getting a good start on the new semester I'm ready to get down to business. The watch words for the next few months are speed and strength. I'm going to focus on interval days, weights with only enough distance to keep my stamina up. Hopefully all this will translate to a 5K PR at the end of April.

The Plan:
  • Three to five days lifting weights with at least two of those days prioritizing lower body strength.
  • Two sets of intervals (half mile or longer) a week. I'm going to start at a 6:30-6:50/mile pace and adjust as necessary.
  • One long day (ten or so miles) at a moderate pace
  •  One mixed/tempo run

By the time I'm done I hope I can actually move a little bit. We'll see.

2011 and All That

According the internet the new trends of 2011 include modern suits, flaired jeans, and something called loungerie. Now I imagine I enjoy lounging as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure I'm ready for this (OSFFCWP).*

Unlike fasion designers, however, I don't think of this time of year as a new beginning as much as I think of it as time make the subtle shift from longer-distance, running-only training to less focused fun work outs with some emphasis on the 5Ks I like to race in the spring. Think of this as trading your Uggs for sweaty, slightly sunburned cat heels.

I plan on getting in two or three 5Ks between now and the end of April and I will be very disappointed if I don't clock a sub-22 in at least one certified-distance race. At the same time, I'm going to try to maintain a three-day-a-week strength plan built around the three lifts I'm tracking on the left side of the screen.

Official training plans will arrive soon along with the requisite complaints about the beginning of spring semester.
